Beyond All Reason is an incredibly impressive free and open source RTS, with The Lightbringer update out now that's a huge advancement for the visuals. If you love massive battles you need to play this one.

I thought it was outdated at first (because last updated 8 months ago) but that is just the launcher which is actually the latest version. The latest actual game assets are downloaded by that launcher.
The game seems quite well optimized and the benchmark runs perfectly for me on a 1070 :)

I’ve been running the Windows version in WINE but the flatpak may be the way to go for ease of use
