Homeland security secretary Kristi Noem posts copy of department’s letter to university on X

The Trump administration has said it is halting Harvard University’s ability to enroll international students and has ordered existing international students at the university to transfer or lose their legal status.

The university currently hosts nearly 6,800 international students, with many being on F-1 or J-1 visas, according to university records. International students make up about 27% of the university’s population.

The latest decision from the homeland security department comes amid growing tensions between federal officials and Harvard over the Trump administration’s claims that the university has implemented inadequate responses to antisemitism on its campus.

    Missing context, which I’m sure was an honest mistake:

    All universities must comply with Department of Homeland Security requirements, including reporting requirements under the Studen and Exchange Visitor Program regulations … As a result of your refusal to comply with multiple requests to provide the Department of Homeland Security pertinent information …

    They failed to comply when requested. They were then given a second chance to comply, a second chance that they’re not legally entitled to, and again they “provided an insufficient response”.

    They’ve been given 72 hours to provide the requested information.
