i’d say it should be “norms” instead of “law” since the US isn’t a party to the ICC and thus isn’t actually legally obligated to, but hooray

Honestly, I think it is at least a little bit performative. One thing I will actually agree with PerryM on is that there’s about a 0% chance that it would stick. But whatever, it’s a good idea for Mamdani to make it clear where he stands on Israel and keep himself in the news, and this is doing both of those, so great, sounds good, I like it.

If there’s a zero chance it would stick, he wouldn’t be scared to visit Belgium, or one of the other countries that have local jurisdiction laws for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Yeah, but those have been decided on the “whole country” level. It’s not one city’s mayor who’s decided “You know what fuck the State Department I’m gonna do some forcible diplomacy, it’ll definitely be fine because after all at the end of the day I am in the right. Which is always most important in geopolitics!”

He might be able to arrest Netanyahu. Although, I sort of suspect that the NYPD would just straight-up refuse to do it. He would not be able to hold him even for long enough to charge him with anything.

Unpopular opinion, but the more Muslims act like a singular, globalist fifth column in western countries the sooner they lose sympathy of the majority of people there.

This is absolutely not a thing that is happening. It is your prejudice and xenophobia combined with dishonest media coverage that has convinced you of this.

This is certainly an unpopular opinion lol.

Are you sure they’re doing that? I’ve known many Muslims and have never known any of them to do anything like that. Are you sure you didn’t watch some dishonest media that convinced you that that is what they are doing, and then you were able to apply it to this singular politician who is doing some policies that are wildly popular outside of the media you consume?

Great, actual debate instead on an insta-ban! How modern!

It seems somewhat obvious, but it’s not a surprising opinion for Mamdani to have, putting the interests and opinions of (parts of) the Arab world before the Christian/Jewish heritage that is New York City. He might be representing other interests and opinions than his constituents.

He might be representing other interests and opinions than his constituents.

You know he’s ahead by 22 percentage points, right? I mean it goes down to 4 points if you artificially winnow the field down into the most disfavorable one-on-one matchup that’s available and continue to give him no support from the Democratic establishment… but overall it sounds like he’s representing exactly the interests and opinions of his constituents, more so than anyone else anyone can find. Specifically that war crimes are bad and rich landlords can get fucked. What interests and opinions would you like to see represented instead of that?
