  • Yeah, 100%. It’s just that usually when something like this gets a large-ish negative reaction it’s because people associate it with furries or some other “taboo” fetish/lifestyle.

I also find that furry stuff gets way more hate than it deserves (which is none hate). I say boo to that! So long as stuff is consensual and nobody gets hurt (who doesn’t want to, lookin’ at you BDSM), then let people enjoy things.

Side note: It’s hilarious how for years people were cheering on Captain Kirk for banging green alien chicks, but cat ears and a tail is a no-go. Cross-species stuff is cool so long as they’re from another planet? What if it was planet Yiff? On the topic of aliens, do we even know if Superman has a human-like penis? Maybe Kryptonians bust onto egg clutches, who’s to say?

Anywho, people are silly and really like policing other people’s likes.

  • Yeah. Like, maybe I’m misinterpreting the ruling, but it sure seems like the mod thought the meme was sexist. For the life of me I just cannot understand that perspective. I was trying to explain my feelings towards the trope in a way that I hoped relatable or understandable to the common person. That’s what memes are for, lol.

In the original R&M scene Rick is literally the villain. He abuses his power of creation to make a machine seemingly capable of independent thought and feelings, and then condemns it to a menial existence. The humor is derived from empathizing with the poor little guy. That feels like a perfect metaphor for the refrigerator trope to me.

I could have instead posted a purely academic analysis of the trope, but that’s not exactly a meme is it?

  • The Modlog says

lemmy.ml rules 1 and 2 (i think you intend to be criticising this trope, but you’re also using it as a punchline)

    Rules 1 and 2 are

Rule 1: No bigotry - including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia. Code of Conduct.

Rule 2: Be respectful, especially when disagreeing. Everyone should feel welcome here.

I made a Rick and Morty butter robot meme. Rick was representing “Authors and Writers” while the robot represented “Strong Female Characters”. Rick told the robot to “get in the refrigerator” in reference to the Women in Refrigerators trope.

You could maybe argue that the meme is an example of the trope, but you’d have to be bad at memes or arguing.

  • If you want to set off a poutine purist you gotta change the cheese. Trad poutine is exclusively made with cheese curds. Lots of places that sell “poutine”, however, use shredded cheese of some kind or other. Some people go nuts over it, lol.

I can definitely understand the heritage part. You can’t just throw a bunch of stuff in a bowl and claim it’s a dish that it is not. Coffee is way more broad and varied than something like cacio e pepe though. I still think it’s pretty stuck-up to scorn someone over how they like to drink it. Coffee has been served many different ways in many different places all over the globe. We don’t have to shun one another over it.

  • Scorned? Lol, what a bunch of prudes. Some people just can’t let others enjoy things. Espresso used to be considered hoity toity here in Canada, but that was years ago. It’s pretty normalized now.

I was under the impression that even if it was the norm, espressos were always referred to as espressos. Neat. I know a good chunk of the world also heavily uses French presses in their coffee making, but the end result is functionally similar to drip coffee.

Edit: I believe I’ve been misunderstood. Not having drip coffee doesn’t make one a prude. Scorning others for their preferred beverage preparation makes one a prude.
