Wow, I didn’t know that was an option, I thought we did 4k, then skipped to 6k and 8k. What’s the actual resolution on that thing?

No one wants to impress Jodie Foster anymore.
There were 2 confirmed assassination attempts on Donald Trump last year and potentially one more where an armed and suspicious individual was trying to get into a location where Trump was but the individual claims he wasn’t planning anything malicious.
Wikipedia reports ~8 more incidents during the years where he was involved in his first presidential term.
I think Biden only had the one with the box truck.
I don’t think there is a good one. It sounds like this is another one of those things where the rules were mostly relying on the idea that the people wouldn’t elect someone who was expected to try to do something like this.
51% disapprove and 44% of approve. It is kinda crazy that we only have 5% left who still just aren’t concerned one way or another.
Shit, I think we’ve all been asking ourselves that on a regular basis for years now and here we are still regularly surprised.
Yeah, it’s kind of hard to come up with a cutoff. There’s lots of really old vague theories that had the right idea. Eventually you get to the point where you’re thinking that there was probably a caveman somewhere who built a fire in a cave and wondered what would happen if the whole world filled with smoke.
From a science perspective, Svante seems to have mostly had it, but applying the science really started to coalesce in the 1950s. The American Petroleum Institute actually funded a study in 1959 to figure out if they were really going to destroy the planet. Their findings were a bit more extreme than what actually worked out, they thought New York would be underwater around 1990, but it pretty well established things.
I know this was a joke, but I was kinda wondering when we first started talking about Climate Change as an issue.
It looks like some guy in Sweden named ‘Svante Arrhenius’ was the first to really get everything properly worked out and documented back in 1896, but the first time it really started to go mainstream seems like it was with ‘economist William Nordhaus’ back in 1975 just feeling like it might be starting to become a real problem.
The multiple instances of the word ‘Cloud’ floating by at varying speeds in the background is what really does it for me.
Definitely art.
I feel like banning all direct links gets you 90% of the way there. No referral codes, if a user wants to find your site, they have to go looking, automated spam is harder, etc.
I’m just waiting for Trump to figure out how to announce that the US is going to own Ukraine now.
I disagree with calling her a clown, but I do worry that it would be hard to get the american populace behind her as that is not an uncommon opinion. A large part of it is likely based on her gender and age, if she was a 60-year old white man with the same ideas, we likely wouldn’t have this problem.
We tend to underestimate how large reddit is and also tend to overestimate how much the quality of the communities we participate in affect the average reddit user.

It grew pretty heavily in 2024, there are other places that collect stats too, but in most ways that you can easily measure, it’s moving in that direction. 2023 did have a small blip in comments posted per year, but it got back on track fairly quick.
I could see Trump jumping on this if the right rich friend is invested in the right nuclear energy company. It feels like it’s within the realm of possibility.
The Pebble platform doesn’t make it super easy to monetize itself beyond hardware sales. There’s no reason to make a watch like this from a business perspective. Plenty probably could, but no one with the resources to do it properly wanted to make something similar.
Eh, the sentiment has always been ‘fuck russia’, it’s a pain. If someone comes up with a good reason to reenter the russian markets and everyone think it’s profitable and legal enough to get away with, they’ll bring it up at their company and will probably be successful, but a lot of us are very happy we didn’t have to worry about that for a few years.
This statement is driving down the perceived profitability though, so probably bought us a bit more time.
