I think some allow Mastodon login!
Yeah context and intend make all the difference. Cultural appropriation is when you try to clad yourself in something that is a facsimile of another culture, usually for marketing or influence purposes, but you neither understand nor have any intend to understand the culture itself or the meaning behind the parts you use for your (usually financial) gain.
On that note, has anyone here gotten into the Surf (the Flipboard thing) beta? I got in, but the download link does not work, but from what I understand that’s supposed to turn into a whole-federation browser starting with the microblogging sites (Mastodon + Bluesky + Threads), so I wonder whether they’ll add support for Pixelfed et al in the future.
No dark mode, no use.
BTW, work boot color is absolutely regulated depending on context. For example here in Germany, if you work in sterile or food-related industries then shoes are to be issued and used with a color that cannot inherently hide stains by the material you’re working with, to prevent accidentally carrying contaminations into other clean zones.
So yes, you would stop the construction crew for using the wrong color work boots.
This is kinda what Surf will be, no? Still in closed beta but it aims to be a browser for the entire federated net, including Threads and Bluesky and all.
Nothing, which is okay. People make the mistake of thinking users have any even passing interested in a good platform with social media, not just the social connections on it.
That is why Bluesky can be so successful: It’s an absolutely smooth and effortless drop-in replacement for Twitter, and has no gathered enough momentum for it to be easy to find existing people you want to follow on it, further drawing more people who you might want to follow in. So the motivation to use it is there, and the switch itself is essentially unnoticable.
Why is there this very loud chorus of people touting bluesky as alternative to twitter instead of the far superior Mastodon?
What makes you assume Mastodon is superior as a solution for the people who are flocking to Bluesky in droves?
If tiktok is sa social media platform, then so is youtube/
You must be fun at parties.
I know people working there, in towns where little other opportunities for such jobs exist. I… really don’t fancy the prospect of Ubisoft going bankrupt.
I find it fascinating that they’re supposedly going bankrupt.
Aren’t they… big? Don’t they have tons of assets? Shouldn’t they be, still, sitting on a pile of cash?
Really? Especially after lockdown, the idea to specifically communicate in non-realtime with friends/family seems quite useful to me.
Yeah you’re right of course, it is censorship. It just happens to be positive. Although, I’d argue that maybe it isn’t based on political or religious views, rather on not wanting to give someone a bad impression of the fediverse and make them leave again? As in, self-serving interests?
Man I sure wish this’d mean all Trump-generated content and speeches got deleted. That’d be genuinely helpful to the world at least…
That’s partially because like many other words and names (just consider Isis, an important goddess of ancient egypt), “socialism” to most people means the type of absolute control that communist countries usually feature. But of course, as a word/concept, socialism is just the application of socialist policies, not even remotely alluding to some absolute end goal or so. And naturally as a part of society except a tiny minority at the top, most people would benefit from more socialist policies.
How does doing it again under a different URL change anything? Or do you inherently fail to understand that the problem isn’t about a specific site?
I mean the same is true of Youtube or “content creator” culture as a whole, only the money pile there is too big to have imploded (so far).
Okaaay. One more for the blocklist, thanks for digging that up. What a guy…
You really should read pages you want to link. And I say this as a die-hard dark mode user. It’s worrying that you so aggressively attack people get cannot even read the page you link far enough to notice that what you are saying about it is nonsense (like how it has “the same reason”, which of course it doesn’t, as made clear in the article).
Or you know, at least don’t be such a dick. That’s also help a lot!
