Blaming Thompson for these prices is shifting the blame. Thompson was the CEO; he wasn’t writing these company policies himself. He approved of these policies, but CEOs aren’t hands-on enough to have this kind of impact on prices.
There are plenty of other ghouls at UHC who are actually more directly to blame for this. And, unlike Thompson, they can still be punished for it.

IIRC, it’s because the country this instance is hosted in has laws that make it difficult to publicly discuss the subject.
Lots of sites will do A/B testing with their headlines/thumbnails. Some users will see version A, some will see version B. After X amount of time, whichever version saw the most traffic becomes the “final” version which all users will see. I imagine this was a similar situation.
Maybe he realized that he bit off more than he could chew and that he’s not actually a gaming visionary in the first place, considering that he stumbled upon Minecraft while developing a completely unrelated base-building game, instead. Minecraft was an accidental success, and you can’t recreate an accident.

I don’t disagree, I’m just saying that blaming solely Thompson would otherwise excuse the others who are arguably more responsible for engineering this hellscape. The sort of responsibility you describe is figurative, at best. You could say he took one for the team, but I think the whole team needs to go, all the way down to the waterboy.
