Define ‘hold a charge well’. There is a lot of conflicting information about NiMH v Li-ion regarding self discharge rates and not much in the way of hard facts. Probably depends a lot on brand/construction of the cell. But even a good one will be (almost) flat if not charged for a few years, and possibly dead (as in cannot be charged anymore). Single use lithium cells last longer (10 years or more) but are expensive and not rechargeable.

Not just open source. It needs to have a sustainable community of developers. I’m not interested in a project that dies when the one maintainer has other priorities (been there with another lemmy app) Open source just means anyone can fork it and carry on, but if nobody does, it still dies.
Not convinced by this story. The guy allegedly worked in security on the base, so probably does not know anything about maintenance needed to keep the warheads operational. I also doubt western security services would let this guy speak to the BBC.
