  • I spent a few years living in Oregon and I remember not being able to help having a double take the first time I saw a black person in my town. I had already lived there for years and never seen one.

    It doesn’t get much whiter than Oregon.

    It was basically the same as the first time I saw a black person when I lived in Sendai, Japan. They just aren’t there.

    Edit: For reference, I grew up in New Jersey, where there were plenty of black people. And Latinos. We were pretty diverse. Japan is not diverse. Oregon is not diverse outside of the Portland area, maybe Eugene or Salem.
