We were playing on the GBA SP, but the cart was the GameBoy original that came with my (definitely dead but I still have it) grey brick GameBoy.

Found my old GBA that I thought I’d gotten rid of because the battery was borked. Turns out the battery still works, it’s the charging light that’s borked. My 6yo saw me rocking Tetris and I let him take a crack at it. He played for two hours straight.

I have a pair of Keen boots that my late uncle used for a decade of daily hiking and then passed on to me, who wore them for another decade of daily wear in winter conditions. They are just now losing their waterproofing but are still warm, sturdy, and maintain a good grip and complete sole.

It’s not as bad as you probably think, and more people are “doing something about it” than you probably think.

But quiet progress doesn’t make the news, neither does people following common sense, neither does the everyday prevention of tragedy. It’s the loud backsliders, the senseless actions, and the unprevented tragedies that make news, so that’s what you see, even though the former is overwhelmingly more prevalent.

I also love this calendar. It’s important to remember that “what day of the week is it” is an important question for at least two world religions, though, so months won’t always start on the same day of the week from year to year — but every month in a given year will.

People who take jobs under the table, people who go back to school full-time, people who live with parents, people who are stay-at-home parents… the list goes on.
