  • I was actually searching for this exact idea like two weeks ago, and came up empty handed. Sometimes things do work out, I guess.

For the unaware, there’s an app called Prologue, which allows you to listen to audiobooks on a Plex server. Plex notably doesn’t have native audiobook support… The first-party PlexAmp app doesn’t support chapters, for instance. You can have the library remember your listening progress, but that doesn’t help much with a book audio file is 12 hours long. As a workaround, Prologue uses Plex’s service to access the files, then is able to read the chapter data from the m4a/m4b file.

  • That’s part of the issue; All of the “best” VPNs have stopped offering port forwarding. Mullvad and Proton are the gold standard for VPNs, but neither offer port forwarding. Private Internet Access still offers it, but they were bought out by a marketing company that was caught sneaking adware into their programs. PIA’s service is still good, but it relies on you trusting an ad company with your internet traffic. They claim to not save any logs or use your data, but they’ve also been found to be liars in the past with that adware scandal.

  • Sounds a lot like American sovereign citizens. SovCits believe America is a corporation that was set up on top of the Articles of Confederation, (which was the precursor to the American Constitution). They basically believe that they can refuse to do business with the “corporation” (government) and be able to break any laws that aren’t written in the Articles of Confederation.

It’s where the “I’m not driving, I’m traveling” memes come from, because the articles of confederation mentioned a right to freely travel. So the SovCits think they can drive without a valid license or vehicle registration, which leads to lots of police dashcam footage of SovCits getting tased during traffic stops when they become irate or try to flee.

  • Torrents only work if at least one side has port forwarding enabled. And you don’t want to rely on other people having their ports open. In order to ensure you can actually connect to a seeder/peer, it’s best practice to enable port forwarding on your end.

The issue with this is that many VPN providers have stopped offering port forwarding services, because kiddy diddlers figured out a way to use port forwarding to privately share CSAM. So it has become difficult to torrent with a VPN, because pedos somehow manage to ruin everything.

  • Yeah, all the people will flock to free VPNs. They’ll google “how to get around blocked porn” and the free VPNs will be at the top of the list. And the issue with free VPNs is that if you’re not the customer, you’re the product being sold.

Though it would be a great way to catch a bunch of conservative politicians cranking it to gay porn. Because if they’re using those free VPNs, (because they’re all +70 years old and have no idea how to actually stay safe online,) then their data can be bought.

  • Not just well known… He’s outright banned from ever having a controlling stake in a charity. Because his theft was so blatant and widespread that regulators decided he can’t be trusted with it again.

If he ever joins a charity as a director, the charity must have a majority of directors outside of his “inner circle”, must use external accounting firms, and must retain a law firm experienced in charity law. Basically, he can’t ever have a controlling stake in a charity.

  • People should be allowed to grow from their mistakes. The issue here is that she had to be intentionally ignorant to miss the fact that Trump wanted to cut funding. Like at a certain point, the ignorance becomes maliciously intentional.

If she’s really willing to give up that willful ignorance, then that’s great! But in many recent cases, the “regret” is performative so they can get screenshots of comments just like yours. Then they take them and go crying back to the republican echo chambers about “waaaaah the libruls were mean to me so I’m gonna keep being republican instead. So much for the tolerant left.”

  • You should look up the Just World fallacy. It’s a pattern of thinking where people innately believe that the world is just, because it helps them avoid the uncomfortable truth that bad things can happen to good people.

Once you understand it, you start to see it everywhere. For instance, it is the basis for modern conservative social policy. It’s what drives the “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mentality, because conservatives want to believe that if someone is destitute it is a failing on their end. Because if you accept that good, hard working people can fall on hard times, then you also need to accept that it can happen to you. And that’s a very scary thought, so many people will outright reject it.

Your mom asking what you did to deserve it is just another example. She doesn’t want to believe that a bad thing happened to you for no reason. Because that means the world is unjust, and that’s a scary thought.
