All the more reason just to use yt-dlp. I know it takes a tiny bit of time to set up, but it’s well worth it. I’m able to download 20-minute videos that would have otherwise buffered in less than a minute. I can simultaneously queue up a bunch of videos, and watch them with zero stuttering.
Wow! That’s kinda insane. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone do that. Perhaps it’s just invisible to outsiders, because it’s that seamlessly integrated?
Yeah the smaller binaries is a big part too. I bet it feels like having your system hand-crafted just for you
From what I’ve heard compiling locally also allows for hardware optimizations specific to your system, though that may be false, as I’ve never used gentoo.
I’d never heard of the latter two. Thank you!
Higher resolution videos actually have better bitrates on youtube. Like if you select 4k even if your monitor is just 1080p, the video will look much better.
I’m only starting to realize now that the Fediverse kinda follows the unix philosophy of purpose-built interconnectable pieces interfacing with each other. It’s much better than the alternative of just slapping everything into one cumbersome pile.
I’m not very well versed in the Fediverse so this may be wrong.
The entire internet nowadays is either monopolized or close to it. I miss the days of many servers hosting indie websites, as opposed to one or two companies per niche.
It’s pretty random whether you get the message or not. Some of my friends, including me, straight up cannot watch youtube on their website half of the time anymore, because it full blocks us. It’s not just an annoying message, videos actually just don’t play. But I only get it on some days. I think the message only pops up if you’ve been watching for more than like an hour straight. Then again, some of my friends have never seen the message. Who knows. Just more weird big tech server bullshit. Like how twitter’s api works 15% of the time (for me).
Yeah yt-dlp has been my strat this whole time anyway. Also Piped and Invidious get the job done when i’m too lazy to type in one short command for every video I watch.
Also, specifying format with yt-dlp is unnecessary (“-f 22”) if you have ffmpeg installed iirc because it automatically selects the highest quality, thus shortening the command even further.
whenever i get the ad thing (im using ublock) i just yt-dlp and then watch that way
If the books aren’t too obscure, you might just be able to find an EPUB of them online. It’s sort of a moral grey-area, but considering you already own the books I assume, you can very likely find them here.
I don’t know how you’re going to get a hold of the text from the images. But I do know that if you’re trying to create a book file, PDFs are not the answer. EPUBs are far better, and an open standard. I recommend creating them using the Calibre EPUB editor.
The reason EPUBs are better is because they were designed specifically for books. They’re reflowable (meaning the pages aren’t fixed-size, and therefore can be read on devices of all sizes), whereas PDFs have fixed content, and are very difficult to read on small things like phones and e-readers, requiring zooming just to see the text. Also, EPUBs aren’t very difficult to create. You just have to know how XML works. It’s basically just a zipped directory containing markup files.
I’m really poor and hate paying for things monthly. I had been asking my friends though if I could use their networks through tunnels, but no one was able to understand what I meant enough to be able to help. They would have to know how to set up SSH.
That’s the whole thing. I was on CGNAT, and decided to pay $10 monthly to fix it and get a public ip. But NOW I find out the fucking router doesn’t even work. It’s apparently this exact model that has the issue. And only this one. I don’t know if I could replace the firmware.
I have like 3 spare laptops, and another spare computer. I’m not running anything right now because this router doesn’t support port forwarding no matter what I try (it’s a firmware issue apparently), but they’re always there for me when I need them.
That’s probably the reason the person in question isn’t educated in the first place lol
Sometimes my friends laugh at me for how little I know about pop culture. I laugh back though. I wouldn’t say I’m proud of it but it’s just funny.
Does anyone know how to export anymore? I have so many listens that it just breaks on the client side when i press the button. They recently tried to fix it too but it’s still completely broken. and the export was my only reason for using it lol
