One install is fine! you just need to add it as a non steam game for each different steam account! (assume save progression doesnt matter as much)

I’ve been too lazy to rebuild my windows work VM in something different and never really had any issues with VirtualBox. I know there are better solutions out there I just can’t be stuffed.

I have an 8 and a 7 year old who both have their own steam accounts as child accounts within my steam family. Both of them have access to a profile on the steam deck(though I have 2 decks so they can each use one at the same time) and they for the most part just work.
The steam user profile changes but the account the steam deck runs on doesn’t. So some things stick around. Controller pairings and the like just work. Steam profile specific configs need to be done multiple times for each user (steam input custom mapping, etc) but I try and mostly stick to deck verified games for my kids because they really do just work.
I had a dock for a while and it also just kinda worked. But I didn’t have to do much tweaking. The dock broke after a while though(jsaux not valve) and I never bothered to replace it since I ended up just installing moonlight in my tv and sunshine on my gaming PC(also Linux).
I don’t have any experience with heroic launcher, but I did set up prism and Minecraft on their profiles and it just worked with the right deck compatible mod bundle.
The biggest issue I have found is sea of thieves will default to whichever the last signed in account is on any profile, so I just signed into it on my daughter’s account and don’t play it on the deck myself.
Docking it made it a bit more complicated for us as well, mostly because the kids don’t know much about the tv inputs and honestly getting them set up would just take me a few seconds to turn it in, grab the charged controllers and get them to the home menu so I never really bothered to teach them it. But that’s a non issue unless I buy another dock at some point in the future. They both prefer to be in mobile mode on the couch anyways.

I have a stock pixel 10. I mostly just ignore it because I have so much more shit going on in my life that needs my attention. The last thing I want is a more complicated phone. Also it’s a work phone so it’s free for me so I just try and keep personal stuff to a minimum on it.
Google provides functionality for me and my family. Sure it would be nice to be able to trust that my data is mine. But Google photos is great to keep my family photos all shared with people who want to see them. Maybe when I have lower life overhead or Google really makes things bad for me would I consider taking on more technical responsibilities for my privacy.

I’m torn. Valve has been so good for Linux gaming. They made a handheld console that emphasizes real ownership and the right to repair. They generally make good decisions when it comes to things and while they do take a big cut of game sales, their platform has so many features it’s crazy.
This gambling thing though really sucks. I get that they need to monetize, but I feel like they could get away with just selling skins, or having the loot boxes being a free daily play reward that drops things that could be sellable on the marketplace. No way to buy a box like this. Just earned for free through play.

Wouldn’t it be cool if people used loops instead!

I’ve got a 6800xt and it runs really well on medium settings. Looks pretty good as well. Never had the game crash on me either. It’s 60fps but I’m cool with that. Gameplay feels smooth at that and it’s steady. No upscaling no frame Gen. 3440x1440.
I have heard a lot of people are having issues with Nvidia hardware though.

My mid range 4 year old PC must be hella premium. Because I’ve had no issues playing it.

Quite a bit of northgard with my wife. But I have really been wanting to goof off in Abiotic Factor with my friends. It’s been hard to get together. Curse getting older and having other priorities!

I thought borderlands 2 was great, but I spent more time playing 3. I’m excited to play 4 but there isn’t a chance in hell I’m buying it day one. I want to see what the general reaction to it is before I spend my coin on it.

If you wanted to you could host your own server with Owncast.
I set one up on an old laptop and it worked well enough the few times a mucked around with it.
Endeavour OS! So far it’s been smooth for the past 4 years. I’ve enjoyed it.

Ha! Gottem.
I love these posts and always look forward to them. Take care of your health! As someone who recently found out my health and lifestyle are about to change drastically. You absolutely need to make sure you take care of you.
It was ok. It felt like it needed something. The basic ship was clunky feeling to fly and the weapons felt mediocre. The enemies didn’t feel fun to fight either. But it was fun with my friends. But I think that was spending time with them more than the game was. I walked away from the game not disliking it, but not having any particular interest in playing any more of it.

Even just the RTS games that never came out. Northgard is great on the deck!

Pretty much. If it works for the steam deck it should work for the desktop. There are some exceptions for some brand new games. But if you want to wait a week or two for new releases usually it’s fine.

Get some Darn Tough socks! I’ve been using them for years and outside of the initial purchase I’ve been rocking free socks!

They do. Just not 3rd party.
I played Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip and laughed multiple times in the first few minutes
