Give me reasons to stay. I ret really annoyed by all the garbage my friends share and thus how little value you provide. give me value and I’ll stay. Simple as that.

If you give great service to the city and suburbs there will be enough left over to bring some service to rural areas. However if you give bad service to suburbs (much less the really dense citiy which often has poor service in North America) there will be no money for anything else.

It is when they work. More than once I’ve seen the time displayed jump. Next bus in 7 minutes for the next 15 minutes, then 1 minute as the bus itself pulls to a stop.

I have never seen anyone suggest how to change a culture in a way that isn’t worse than all the bad effects of the culture they want to change.

This is a bad thing - buses need to be predictable for everyone. Sure it is nice for the person who is off the “main” route. But for everyone else trying to get to their meeting on time it means sometimes they are late because the bus decided to take a longer route. Transit needs to be predictable because getting there on time is critical for a large number of trips.

almost nobody lives in those rural sparse areas. Forget about them and focus on the much larger numbers who live in more dense areas and yet get terrible service. Even suburbs can support better service.

One of each. There is a small chance that drives made in the same factory will fail at exactly the same time for the same reason when used in RAID 1. While this probably won’t happen (if it does it would be in the first month and you will hear about others with the same failures), why risk it. Besides you want hard drive makers to stay in business - all hard drives will crash in the future, the only question is when.

I didn’t take my advice for a RAID I built years ago. I just placed the order (one hour ago) to replace a WD red with a Seagate. God only knows when the next drive will fail. I’ve overall been fine, but I only have one disk redundancy in my zfs system until Thursday.

Ever used a bus every 30 minutes? They force you to slave your life to the schedule. there are no quick trips as you are waiting 28 minutes for your next trip after buying your coffee. You can get to work but that is about it. no wonder most people don’t ride.

give people in that area better service and they will ride. (but probably not in numbers to pay for thth but - only the largest bendein the midele buses can pay for them selves on a reasonable fare.

sort of. Rural areas can’t support a frequent bus but suburban areas can support a bus more frequent than they get. Lack of service is why those butes are empty: people who tan afford a car and wouldn’t face much traffic drive instead of slaving their life to the but schedule.

note that it takes several years of frequent service for people to figure out the bus doesn’t suck and it takes a great network as well as frequency. An such no transit systen has the money needed to prove me right. Still I maintain transit doesn’t need nearly as high density as most people think. What density gives you is enough people who can’t drive to support a systen those who can would choose to use.

Coldest I waited for a bus was about -25c when you dress for it it isn’t too bad.

Frequent buses. I’ve never stood in one despite spending a lot of time waiting for my bus. shelters are cheap and bus drivers are expensive so I understand putting in a shelter when there is some money but not enough for another but but adding another bus is always the better option if there is any choice.

apps are not a substitute for being on time every time. The only substitue is a bus ever 5 minutes or less so you don’t bother checking the clock.

Unions in the us have ruined any interest in joining. Other countries have different imblementations. If I could start from scratch but laws favor the existing taking over.

Unfortunately janky media files seem to be the rule.

I’m glad - it is frusterating when you fing a great candidate but can’t hire because you didn’t get enough qualified minority applicants now you had to waste someone’s time on an interview who isn’t even qualified. Fortunately we almost always had at least one anyway and they got hired often as the most qualified. But it didn’t change anything evcept to waste time once in a while.

@ryujin470@fedia.io Most good languages are a variation of ALGOL, Psacal, or LISP. They have added a lot more syntax, but there are only so many ways to represent blocks (both named and unnamed, calling functions, loops and the other basics within the limits of 7 bit ASCII. Even if you expand any language (including symbols you makeup), those still remains the basics and we have learned from painful experience what makes things bad.

If it is rare enough and you don’t have an emergency that is the right thing. Odds are the rest of your city doesn’t have the ability to deal with those temperatures and so you going out will make things harder for emergency workers who must get out. If your city deals with this often then everyone will know how to deal with it and expect you to deal with it. You cannot shutdown your life for something that happens every single year, but if it is just a day or two every 5 years it isn’t worth being knowing how to deal with it other than the minimum emergency needs (that is make sure your HVAC system at home can handle it)

You still need resistive heat as heatpumps don’t work below about -20C and those temperatures happen to at least some car buyers.

You should check on the mods some are really bad others I’m glad they remove the garbage.
