Any social media that you isn’t open and self hostable (Lemmy, Mastodon, etc) should not be used. That includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, and more.

Most social media has, IMHO, been a net-negative for society and I am in the generation that grew up with it in its infancy.

In my experience, the updates are quick as long as you boot it once every few months. I have a work laptop that I rarely use unless I’m travelling (I work primarily on a desktop, but I will keep it charged and update it once every 2-3 months so it’s ready for action.

Microsoft would have a hard time crushing the biggest gaming store in the industry. I think this is more of a “don’t fuck around or you’ll find out” from Valve to Microsoft.

Valve is put in a weak position if they’re entirely reliant on Windows. Having another option that grows in market share puts them on better negotiating footing, should the need arise.
