I thought I read elsewhere that a fair amount were trying Mastodon too. I take both as wins, given that they could have chosen Threads or Facebook.

It’s infuriating and disgraceful, but none of the orgs and their employees seem to feel any shame about it.

Agreed. Her comments were more nuanced than that. And I think what she said was correct. These policies might better come down to how they are framed if we want them to succeed.
