Close, but I spell my name with a “ph” so it’s Phteven, or Phteve for short.

It’s not social media if your accounts aren’t doxxable in either direction. People who know me in person and know I’m on Lemmy wouldn’t be able to figure out which account is mine, and people who encounter my account on Lemmy wouldn’t be able to figure out who I am out in the real world.
exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•As Spotify moves to video, the environmental footprint of music streaming hits the high notesEnglish5·15 days agoThat’s one of my pet peeves, when people use relative comparisons to overstate things that have very small absolute differences.
55g of CO2 is basically nothing. A gallon of gasoline represents about 2400g of CO2 emissions when burned. So for a typical vehicle that gets 30 miles per gallon, 55g of CO2 is basically the equivalent of driving 0.6875 miles (1.1km).
It’s less than the carbon footprint of a cup of coffee (60g).
Or, alternatively, eating a single quarter pound hamburger would be about 3 kg of CO2, or 55 hours of video viewing at this rate.

Are Americans ready to let go?2·16 days agoFun fact, though, Kraft Mac and Cheese removed artificial dyes in 2013, didn’t tell anyone at first, and waited to see if consumers would complain. Nobody did, so they announced that they were able to replace the artificial yellow colors with really colorful spices like annatto and turmeric.
So you’re still gonna get staining. Turmeric gets in everything.

From the article:
Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but the (incredible) official logline of the series simply states, “The story of killing Nazis is evergreen.”

I’d never want to go back to the old defaults in forums, of un-threaded conversations where every comment is equal (and generally sorted by timestamp). Some comments are just better than others, and a user interface should prioritize the better comments.
Comments that are interesting, funny, or informative can be read by more people when they’re shown earlier in the page.
Comments that are rude, factually incorrect, off topic, etc., can be de-emphasized in the user interface, even if they don’t technically break any rules. I’d rather it be a community driven decision than a mod-driven decision of the harsh consequences of comment removal or user ban.
The key is to find a community whose collective opinions you respect. Crowds may not be perfect, but they’re generally better than individual mods.
And a naive “newest first” sort algorithm just prioritizes frequent posters and incentivizes “bumping” threads, which also detracts from the overall quality of a forum.

Inside FX’s Risky Bet for a New Blockbuster Series4·19 days agoNoah Hawley did a great job of turning Fargo the Coen Brothers movie into a universe that had lots of fleshed out ideas, while still retaining the Coen brothers’ style of alluding to a bigger world with unanswered questions and interesting characters with untold back stories.
I’m gonna give it a chance based entirely on his involvement.
I’m still active in my 40’s and I have a bunch of nagging sports injuries, some of which trace back 20+ years. Overuse injuries are common, too. Ask pretty much any serious runner or lifter or full time athlete, and they’ll all have things that they just live with.
the kid is gonna die after it wears off
Ah yes, the SUV is basically the bride from Kill Bill, doing the five point palm exploding heart technique.
exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.comto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that apart from not having a car and voting, the single greatest thing you can do for the climate is simply eating less red meat.2·1 month agoI eat a legume for pretty much every meal:
- Peanut butter on regular rotation for convenience foods
- Peas or beans or snap peas as a component in pasta dishes or salads
- Blanched peas or green beans as a vegetable side when I’m eating dinner with a main and sides separate.
- Edamame with Asianish noodle dishes, including instant ramen
- Snow peas or snap peas as a component in stir fries
- Beans in salads (things like kidney beans or black beans)
- Lentils or beans in fast casual rice bowls of a Mediterranean influence
- Some kind of lentil or chickpea dish with South Asian food.
- Beans with Mexican food because duh
- Dried beans with my braises (cassoulet, chili, other random assortments of ingredients in a braising pot/dutch oven), only you gotta be conscious of how dried beans don’t cook properly in acidic environments.
I personally don’t care for tofu. I’ll eat it when it’s a component of a dish I happen to already be eating, but I rarely seek it out to be the star of the dish I order or make, with only a few exceptions.
But adding legumes/pulses to your meals is an easy way to get more protein, including amino acids (like lysine) that aren’t present in traditional grains like wheat or rice. And they’re generally a good source of certain types of soluble fiber good for gut health. I’m also generally less hungry (and get full faster) when I’m eating plenty of fiber and protein, so legumes help with both of those.
I eat a lot, so I still eat a decent amount of meat overall, but as a percentage of my 3500-calorie diet it’s probably smaller than the average Westerner.
exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Comic Strips@lemmy.world•It doesn't get any better at 405·1 month agoAs this thread shows, back pain isn’t caused by just one thing, so each specific person’s back pain won’t be cured by the same one size fits all approach.
If your back pain is caused by poor posture exacerbated by a weak posterior chain, lifting weights at the gym or doing other strengthening exercises/physical therapy can be helpful. As plenty in this thread can attest, gym time to offset laptop time can go a long way.
If your back pain is caused by repetitive stress from physical labor, adhering to proper form/technique and rest/recovery cycles to the best of your ability can help.
If your back pain is exacerbated by the weight you carry, losing weight (or in certain circumstances, breast reduction surgery) can help.
We’re all just trying to get through life. Sometimes other people’s tips can help, so it’s worth sharing, but we also shouldn’t get too tied to a particular solution that worked for us, as a the solution for everyone else.
Might be a mixup from some of the rights history. Paramount held the distribution rights to the first 5 MCU movies (aka “phase 1” up to Avengers) but Disney got back those rights in 2013.
