It’s the masses joining non-violent protests that gets shit done. They can’t ignore it when it gets big enough. Violence makes it that much harder to hold those safely.
The mainstream media and the right wing propaganda machine will amplify any small amount of violence to try to tarnish the whole movement.

Rice grown in California should not be cheaper than rice grown in Japan, just purely based on a currency analysis. Almost all other domestic foods in Japan are much cheaper in real terms than in California.

I want to agree with you, but Elon is not stupid and definitely had something to do with the success of Falcon 9.
What I think he is good at is having crazy innovative ideas and pushing his engineering team to make it some kind of reality. Being able to spend the time to listen to engineering, work through the issues, find ways to do things to make it work while still achieving the fundamental goals.
My guess is that he’s not had the time to do that process and instead became the “do it my way or you’re fired” guy. Less Elon could be bad because they have less chance to talk sense into him. He certainly didn’t give up any control when he gave up his focus.
The graph on the right only shows that more variables impact unemployment than just interest rates alone, which you obviously know. It doesn’t prove or disprove the model on the left, which is a pretty simplified relationship. Monetary policy, like adjusting interest rates, was demonstrated to be quite effective just recently with the Fed successfully keeping inflation and employment under control with these tools over the past few years.
We know Eric Adams did something similar with Turkish donors in New York. There was also a ton of reports of this happening during Trump’s first campaign.

This result has probably been priced in since it hit the current floor in March. The bump after the report is likely because there were no bombshells in it. They’re saying they’re still on track for all the vaporware that the valuation is based on. It will drop again when they’re inevitably delayed and it becomes clear the robots and AI taxis aren’t revolutionary but just exactly what other companies already beat them to.
I had scanned through it, and it looked like the exact same stuff that Google and Microsoft say. Paraphrasing: “we value your privacy” “we’re de-identifying your data” “the processing occurs on-device”…
Apple probably is better on privacy than other big tech corpos, but it’s a race to the bottom, and they’re definitely participating in the race.

It’s definitely highly edited. It probably isn’t AI, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the editing was heavily AI assisted. I found the original source on reddit itookapicture 1 year ago, which isn’t 100% evidence, but AI was way worse then and it doesn’t have any of the telltale AI signs.

Few people mean this literally. We all know covid is still around and will be quite possibly forever. What it means, depending on context is “during covid lockdowns” or “during covid restrictions” or really just 2020.
It’s not a pandemic anymore, it’s endemic now. Get both your shots every year now. Covid isn’t the new flu, it’s flu’s new buddy.

The failing was decades and centuries ago that led to this. Power has been consolidating in the presidency since the constitution was signed as the legislature and courts are happy to give more and more of their power over to the executive.
We’ve only been protected by being lucky having presidents and their staff with genuine care for the intent of the constitution.
This was only a matter of time. It wasn’t our fault. This is America.
Why would an optional feature be a deal breaker?

I think what is happening is that Ukraine believes that signing the deal will result in a range of outcomes from neutral to positive, depending how and when the US renegs on their side of it. But without the deal the outcomes range from neutral to very negative, so making the deal is the clear right move even if you believe it won’t do anything.
The protests didn’t make nearly any national news. Hope the next ones go better.
That’s part of their plan. They start by more aggressively tracking down, arresting, and deporting the people with the most severe criminal records who have probably been already already convicted of a deportable offense. They can go around saying how they’ve got these actual criminals that “Biden allowed to stay” and be telling enough of the truth that it works.
The next step is to start going after people with mild criminal records, maybe shoplifting or an assault charge from a bar fight. People who wouldn’t normally be eligible to deport. People who are here maybe legally maybe not.
Then they start revoking legal status from people by just accusing them of petty crimes and deporting them without due process. This is what the new law they just passed with Democrats support allows the government to do now.
We need lots and lots of lawyers on our side to fight this stuff. Sometimes we will lose in court, but often we won’t. A lot of judges actually do believe in the rule of law. Not everything will make it to the Supreme Court and not everything that does make it there will be upheld.
If we don’t fight things in court, nothing stops them from taking effect, so that is priority number 1 in terms of funding. We need to pay good lawyers good money or else they’ll watch the US crumble with the rest of us.
They’ll do that if there is trash on the ground and claim it’s looting. They’ll do that if anything catches on fire and call it a riot.
Dropping rocks, lime scooters, and molotovs on police cars parked under an overpass doesn’t need any sensationalism to amplify AND it gives the police a great reason to start blasting.
