If it turns out women are just 6 times less likely than men to want to have these jobs,
Suggesting that women don’t want to work in a fully bro-culture environment isn’t really the best arguement you could make.

but my money is on “at least one sustainable holdout” somewhere.
That is a possible outcome. But far from a desirable one.
There is so much more we (as a species) could be doing to prevent a mass extinction event.
But instead we’ve got our collective heads so far up our own asses that we can’t even cooperate enough to do what could be the simplest things.
It’s frustrating to see this disaster coming directly at us and being prevented from taking meaningful action by politicians who refuse to cooperate, by billionaires who hoard wealth and sculpt public opion toward self-destructive ends, by religions that gleefully anticipate their scriptures version of Armageddon.
but I’m unconvinced that would scrub the entire surface clean
Not entirely. The wars over increasingly scarce resources (such as farmable land and water) will do a lot of the extermination as well.
The awful climate is the main reason I can’t see myself moving to Canada.
That’s fine. We’re trying to cut back on immigration at the moment anyway.
But since I’ve got you on the phone, would you mind doing something about all the noise coming from downstairs. It’s getting hard to sleep at night.
Nah, that’s just being a good neighbour.
Plus, while May is a parliamentarian, she is also the leader of a party of one elected person.
Yeah, NoDak is pretty strong red hat territory. They wouldn’t be a good fit.
Also, Indiana, Idaho, South Dakota and Wyoming, you’re expressly not allowed in.
There’s far too many MAGA hats in Montana and North Dakota for them to be welcomed either.
They didn’t want to be caught holding the hot potato when the music stops.
The fact that someone else is willing to take that risk (or doesn’t see that risk) doesn’t mean too much in the big picture.
The same thing might have happened if she bought a Mac and needed some Windows only software.
Is it off, or is it an optional module that doesn’t have to be adding bloat to my system if I don’t want to use it?
LLMs can take up a pretty big storage footprint.
My biggest issue with that is the amount of bloat a full local LLM implementation would add.
But if it’s an optional module that you can choose to add (or choose not to add) after the fact, I have no complaint.
And when they run out of places to profitably insure?
They’ll run out of places to sell insurance pretty fast if climate change isn’t effectively countered.
I’m thinking a death match between big oil and big insurance.
If they run out of people/places that are profitable to insure any more, there won’t be any profits to make.
They should be putting in effort to reduce climate change impacts. It’s in their financial interest, even if they have no capability to have a moral motivation
You’d think that insurance companies would be on the forefront of pushing climate change mitigation and prevention specifically because the impacts of worsening climate change will have a massive impact on their bottom line.
Maybe they can counter some of the petro company propaganda with their own marketing.
It’s going to be hard to undo the tipping culture due to this.
So, because something isn’t easy we shouldn’t even try to improve the situation?
The same people removing DEI legal protections are also gutting the education system.
