… the billionaire proof version of Bluesky is … Mastodon.
HW/FW security researcher & Demoscene elder.
I started having arguments online back on Fidonet and Usenet. I’m too tired to care now.
… the billionaire proof version of Bluesky is … Mastodon.
Yes I have been impressed with the quality of summaries keeping to the content. I have seen, rare, attribution errors though, where who said what got mixed up in unfortunate ways.
Yeah I’ve used local whisper and LLMs to automatically summarize Youtube-videos and podcasts to text with good results.
My 12yo learnt about Recall from some Youtube video and has now said they want to move to Linux. I’m not fully convinced it’s possible though, I know they have some modding tools etc for indie games that seem to be Windows only. Let’s see.
How do you prevent someone making a bomb out of gas cans and pyrotechnics by replacing batteries … ? Those weren’t even affected by the explosion/fire.
Deflation has a good chance of forcing a stop to endless consumerism - and that will at least be good for the climate. It will cause havoc to the current economic system though, and that in turn could make things worse for investments into green tech.
So … yeah.
Maybe you’re talking about the previous models? The platform starting with ID.7 is amazing. Yes, I replaced my Tesla with an ID.7. Two of my friends waited a bit longer and grabbed the GTX ID.7 Tourer model instead - now voted best EV of 2024.
The price of my ID.7 was slightly more than the much smaller Model 3, and way cheaper than Polestar and KIA.
Some countries (like Sweden) don’t use gas at all for home heating or cooking. We went fully electric in the 70s when we built up our nuclear reactor fleet (sadly, some of now have been closed due to the “nukes are bad” crowd) and that helps a lot now when it comes to relying on renewables.
I don’t have kids
Yeah I think you should abstain from having opinions on what their generation is doing then. In the whole of human history no older generation has ever been correct regarding what the upcoming generation should or shouldn’t do.
The study you link says the exact same thing as Burnett does. It doesn’t support “social media is bad for kids”.
edit:
In all, the available meta-analytic evidence suggests that SNS use is weakly associated with higher levels of ill-being [14,17, 18, 19, 20] but also with higher levels of well-being [17,19], a result that suggests that ill-being is not simply the flip-side of well-being and vice versa, and that both outcomes should be investigated in their own right [11,39]. Finally, all meta-analyses reported considerable variability in the reported associations. For example, in the meta-analysis by Ivie et al. [14], the reported associations of SMU with depressive symptoms ranged from r = −.10 to r = +.33.

but we have to acknowledge the negative side, which in my opinion […]
I don’t do opinions. Burnett (a neuroscientist) has linked many sources - maybe you just need to read a bit more.
Additionally, your claims about what’s “smartphones” and what’s “social media” are strange - my kids use Snapchat to communicate. Do you think they use SMS?? How old are your kids?
“Probably”
This is your definition of scientific?
Thanks for proving my point.
great account to follow regarding the science on the subject: https://ohai.social/@Garwboy/113554246823274751
Lots of people believe things not supported by science.
News at 11.
Yeah. We’ve learnt a lot from how countries have acted when we’ve tried giving weapons and munitions to Ukraine the last few years.
The Swedish Gripen airplanes are still not in Ukraine. It’s not due to Sweden or Ukraine …
… which would cause Trump to cancel trade most certainly. I’m a citizen of a European Nato member and I don’t believe we can take that risk.
Without the agreement of the US a lot of the weapon systems NATO members have cannot be used. That’s the downside of using common components and platforms throughout the alliance.
I assume this is “the Trump plan” so he’ll say agree to it or he takes the US and goes home.
… anymore. In the beginning you could even find scene release group names in the album titles.

No, they should be where no entity outside of European jurisdiction can influence their messaging.
The EU commission has their own Mastodon instance. That’s how all public services should do it.
That’s just replies to a post. It doesn’t solve not all posts reaching everybody.
I think I just saw somone report that ~25% could be blamed on climate change. That’s not 0, that’s not 100%, so it would be a bit strange to just blaime the oil industry.
I mean it would be a good idea to … remove all those non-native eucalyptus trees having been planted all over California? Those are basically pure explosive fuel.
