How much more obvious can these people make it that they are the bad guys? No free democratic country would make it’s press sign a fucking media pledge. That is taking the biggest possible shit on press freedom.

It’s so fucking wild to me that Americans STILL don’t seem to get it-

They WANT to be seen as the bad guys- it’s not a failure of messaging, it’s a flex. “We are now full on Nazis because we know you won’t lift a finger to stop us.” It’s a demoralization tactic, and it’s clearly working.

Conservatives probably want to go back to the times where there was no genuine correspondence between the media and the military. Back then, everything about war that was released to the public was carefully curated to ensure the taxpayer never lost faith in our troops or lost the appetite for more war. They think allowing independent journalism into their business was a key mistake that helped lose them the war in Vietnam.

Fascists don’t deal in journalism, they deal in propaganda. You don’t need Pentagon access to get marching orders from the Ministry of Truth, and this is likely the start of that, and why de-facto state media like Newsmax and Fox aren’t interested in keeping their connections.

… If their only goal is to regurgitate propaganda, why would they not sign the oath to give even more propaganda?

Nobody is saying you Gotta Give It to ISIS. But we should still consider facts and actions rather than just make up a narrative to hate (even those that very much deserve hatred).

        Its because its less propaganda.

The agreement, according to OP’s source, would prevent them from seeking sources that aren’t official sources, and also locks down a lot of journalist interpretation.

This means that the document basically says they gotta parrot whatever the government says to the press, and not do journalism about it.

Fox news might live on propaganda, but they don’t want to be constrained by whatever propaganda the government is nice enough to give them, they wanna make their own.

I think it’s most likely being rejected because they understand how a slippery slope works and are concerned that soon private media won’t be allowed.

And THAT is the key (at least, in my eyes).

Fox News doesn’t care about facts or even republicans/project 2025. They care about ratings. It is why trump has a love/hate relationship with them where he is shitting on them almost as often as he is calling in. And murdoch et al are smart enough to realize that it will be REAL easy to ban the “not always in lockstep” network in favor of OAN and whatever other horrors the chuds watch.

To normalize the military keeping the media at arms’ length or further. Again, you don’t need actual access to military affairs to spread propaganda.

I’m not saying my hypothesis is empirical truth. If it holds water I’d expect further sequestering of military affairs in the future under the guise of “national security.”

If Fox News is siding with all the other networks, then you know you messed up.

Lol, after most other places had already rejected it. They only feel safe when they can hide in a crowd.

With that under their belt, it might be time for them to start broadcasting actual news and not the conservative propaganda from the admin attempting to bring them to heel.

    Alas…
