A judge has issued a temporary restraining order blocking the Trump administration’s plan to strip Harvard University of its ability to enrol foreign students.

The ruling came after Harvard filed a lawsuit - the latest escalation of a dispute between the White House and one of America’s most prestigious institutions.

US District Judge Allison Burroughs issued a temporary restraining order in a short ruling issued on Friday.

The order pauses a move that the Department of Homeland Security made on Thursday to revoke Harvard’s access to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program - a government database that manages foreign students.

This has been a favorite ploy of the GOP for decades. If they get elected they put in some blatantly illegal/unConstitutional law and then force the opposition to pay to fight it. Because the GOP is the ‘government’ they can force the taxpayers to subsidize the circus while the Left has to bleed money to pay for lawyers.

But they said the democrats were weaponizing the justice system! Definitely not them, because they never lie.

It’s so easy to parse what they say if you use 1984 rules. Reverse everything.

“Democrats are cheating the vote!” => “We are”

“Democrats are trafficking children and drinking their blood!” => “We are”

“Democrats are letting gangs into the country!” => “We are”

This is true, but Harvard literally has a law school full of professors, some of whom might have taught members of any given court. And they already pay the professors, so it’s no extra money I would think, assuming the professors aren’t upset about the rulings enough to fight them pro-bono, which many are.

I’m sure those professors/lawyers would rather spend their time doing something more fulfilling that fight blatantly unconstitutional bullshit.

I feel like you’ve underestimated the amount of work that goes into a lawsuit against the government.

So when will ICE begin to pick up judges, and send them to Guantanamo on claims of treason?

What really makes me laugh is the notion of Harvard, or any of the Ivies, as bastions of liberal thinking! Seriously, just about every single trust fund right winger has a degree from one of these schools, including the sitting president and his brood. Many of them have family names on some campus buildings. It’s always amazed me that this pathetic political bogeyman has actually worked. Just goes to show how stupid most Americans are (source: am an American).

  • These GOP twats are definitely the product of the shitty education system we have in this country. The main reason why we have the schools we have and the student loans and grants where to get the brain power from Russia during the cold war and was what made America great to begin with. Doing this is literally going to turn us into a 3rd world country in 20 years time, but they are too stupid to know that (or probably don’t care either).

Who in their right mind would enroll in a US I situation in this day and age as a foreigner? There has got to be better options.
