I agree, the closest thing I can liken it to is to refer to them as additional entries to an anthology; but even then it’s not quite correct/succinct enough.
Anthology implies that the episodes/seasons are independent. That works for stuff like Black Mirror which had a gap of four years, but it doesn’t work for story driven shows. I suppose the term “series” could work, it’s already used by some shows like Doctor Who, but that term does double duty as it’s also used to talk about shows in general. Installment could also work.
Yeah they need a new term for these so people know wether or not they want to get invested because it’s just not for some people.
It’s not a show with “seasons” because season implies annually.
Yet they are not mini series either since they do multiple releases
And they aren’t movies since they are broken up into episodes
If there is more than a two year wait between releases I think we need a new term for it.
