He declined to call for unity during the Jan 6 coup attempt. We should not be surprised at his behaviour. We should be surprised at how America handled the attempted coup versus Brazil. Is Brazil the true democracy here?

I skimmed through the comments left so far, and haven’t seen one calling out that this is taking the actual quote way out of context.

He didn’t say he couldn’t care less about unity. I saw the video this afternoon. He was asked a question, said he was going to get in trouble for his answer, but he didn’t care [about getting in trouble] - then gave his usual drivel

Seriously, we have plenty of real stuff to say about this guy. Repeating crap like this to others, trying to make a point, but to people who are aware of the full quote will only make people repeating it look dumb. Don’t fall for that. Stick to things like how he was also talking about “second amendment people” taking care of Hillary Clinton. How he pardoned people who beat up cops (despite Vance saying that “obviously” wouldn’t happen) trying to execute a coup to keep him in office. Stuff like that. Not this.

He said the left is dangerous and that he doesn’t want unity. He couldn’t care less about unity.

The problem is his answer, which basically reinforced him not caring about unity… so it’s clear he doesn’t care about unity…

Ok, but quoting out of context is an awful way to express it. I’m not saying Trump actually really wants unity and gave a great answer. I’m saying he didn’t outright say he doesn’t care the way the headline implies, and it just sets us up to step on a rake if we try to bring it up with others.

Happened this afternoon with a friend of mine posting the same thing elsewhere, unfortunately

The host sets him up for a classic, presidential call for unity. He brushes it off, and acknowledges what he’s about to say is inflammatory, and then heaps blame on the left, demonizing them and trans people specifically.

How is that not him “declining to call for unity?” That’s actually a dry read of what he’s doing here.

The same day, a school in Colorado got shot up by someone who had fallen deep into the alt-right pipeline. It was known that this student was viewing white supremacist, extreme right content. Not a word from the president about that radical right wing rhetoric being to blame or anything of the sort.

Edit: kid also shot himself after. Alt-right pipeline hurts those that fall into it too.

He only cares about himself. That has been clear since he was on life styles of the rich and famous. He is a total POS and somehow people still don’t get it.

Taking the high road is what losers do.

But hey, enjoy living in your idealistic fantasyland where playing by the rules matters.

It’s not about taking the high road but about accepting the fact that the worst monsters to ever walk on this planet have all been humans. By accepting this and being aware that these monsters can come from anywhere, we can better make sure that “never again” actually means Never Again.

Dehumanizing your opposition is extremely counter productive. They’ll either not care, or become more radicalized against you.

Not taking the high road and dehumanizing your opponent aren’t mutually inclusive. There’s better ways to combat fascism.

Such as? Because from my experience and the history that has been taught to me, the only solution is violence. Unless you can cite examples otherwise. I’m not aware of a fascist state that was voted out of power.

You’re still not understanding that you can do all of that without dehumanizing people. And you’ve moved the goalpost since the conversation was originally about Trump supporters, not the leadership. They’re two very different groups of people.

Do you happen to know what was the most effective method of interrogating Nazi PoWs? It wasn’t beating them or treating them like animals. It was giving them good food and a warm bed and being friendly to them. Treating them like humans.

It was showing them that the propaganda the Nazi government had been feeding them about the Allies being evil heartless monsters was a lie.

The biggest job of the presidency and you can’t even do that, you selfish, geriatric piece of shit. Kirk’s blood is on your hands for propagating all this bullshit. You want a civil war and won’t understand that there is no coming back from that.
